We are a group of citizens, co-workers, caregivers, family members and area consumers collaborate with the Alzheimer’ Association dedicated to the education of the greater Lakes Area on the upcoming tsunami and community impact of dementia.

The incidence of Alzheimer’s and related disorder will reach epidemic levels in the next ten to thirty years. This epidemic will affect everyone in our communities from the individuals with memory loss, their families, medical and health care professionals, government and community agencies, and businesses of all types.

LAMAA members have a personal interest in Alzheimer’s disease and other related disorders. We recognize the need for increased awareness and understanding of these disorders throughout our communities.

Our Vision is to create dementia competent communities where memory loss and dementia is understood by all and resources are available to assist those who seek help. Likewise, our Mission is to create a dementia competent community by informing the public through an educational campaign that increases knowledge and awareness among individuals, businesses, community institutions and organizations.

LAMAA advocates volunteer with the MN-ND Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. Our current activities include community presentations and forums, distributing resource booklets, public policy review and assessment of community needs.

Everyone is welcome and anyone interested can learn more by attending our monthly planning meeting held the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 8:15 am-10 am at the Home Instead, 108 S 6th St, Brainerd, MN 56401.
